The park's 1879 Victorian glass conservatory. Tropical flowers, lily pads, orchids. Walk from there via the rose garden to the de Young Museum tower entrance.

The Herzog & de Meuron copper-clad museum. The ninth-floor observation tower is free with no museum ticket β panoramic views over the Pacific, the park, the Marin headlands. Fifteen minutes up top.

Board the Powell-Hyde line at Market Street for the cable car up Nob Hill and over Russian Hill. Hang off the side if you dare. Exit near Lombard Street for the zig-zag section β walk down it rather than driving.
